

Kenyans went on strike and denied tourists access to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This occurred after the natives blocked the entrance in protest of a fees collection contract.
Almost each of the protesters was armed with swords or spears. They blocked Sekenani gate for about four hours alleging they were not consulted prior to the Narok County Council signed the ten-year agreement with Equity Bank.
The rioters also broke down equipment the bank had put up at the gate to asses revenue collection.
In about two months ago, the council contracted the bank to collect park fees at all entry spots, instigating protest from the natives and politicians. It was so sad that tourists had to miss game drives and police had to be alerted to act fast so as to disband the violent demonstrators.
Mr Sammy Nkoitoi The chairman of Siana Wildlife Conservancy announced that while the community thought the idea of e-revenue collection was okay, it was not done above board.”
Other people thought that the council had entered into a ten-year agreement with Equity not compromising the life of the locals people however Council Clerk Pius Mutemi denied claims of wrongdoing.
