Experts from Uganda, Rwanda and democratic republic of Cong met at Kampala Protea hotel for the tripartite meeting. One of the main issues they were to discuss was the Transboundary cooperation and collaborative management of the ecosystems. There discussion cut across all the shared features not limited to the Virunga mountain range the home of the rare mountain gorillas. These gentle eyed creatures are found in the high altitude rainforests of the border triangle. Other issues pointed out included shared features like Queen Elizabeth national Park, Rwenzori National Park and Semliki National park.
this meeting was engineered by the International Gorilla Conservation Programme and other stakeholders plus top conservation NGOs, the cooperation between the three partners, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the Rwanda Development Board Tourism and Conservation and the Congolese Institute for Conservation of Nature has finally intensified and the three bodies regularly meet to discuss and come up with solutions upon matters of mutual concern and significance.
Common Tourism stakeholders and the entire conservation fraternity are able to cooperate with the major conservation organizations and give input and feedback prior to giving measures that are being decided and implemented, making it a relevant consultative platform too.
The Regional Transboundary Forum is part of the six organs of the transboundary collaboration as pointed out in the draft treaty on the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration. The others are the Summit of Heads of States and Government; the Council of Ministers; the Board; the Executive Secretariat and the Regional Technical Committees.
The biannual Regional Transboundary Forum is a meeting of a broad spectrum of stakeholders, based on the theme chosen for every specific meeting and the location migrates from country to country to permit locals to be part of the measures too at regular intervals. The event is meant to highlight the significance of transboundary collaboration and stakeholder engagement. The forum is also meant to be a platform to update the stakeholders on the status of implementation of the transboundary strategic plan. The stakeholders also use the chances to update each other on their numerous programs and activities and have a chance to exchange ideas connected to transboundary collaboration.
Conservation is soon to reign in the three countries.
