Bird Watching In Rwanda
Rwanda is renowned for being a mountain gorilla habitat. These unbelievable brown eyed gentle eyed apes live in Parc National des Volcans. But however this park is also a territory to numerous bird species. These include albertine rift endemic like francolin, Rwenzori turaco, archer’s Robin chat, Shelley’s crimsonwings to mention but a few. As you trek passed the virunga forest, you may have an opportunity of spotting some of the mentioned birds.
When you trek in Nyungwe Forest national parks you may fail to name all the birds you may come across. This forest has a clear winding road that leads to almost all corners of the park. Some of the interesting birds that can be spotted include: yellow –eyed black flycatcher, grauer’s rush warbler, kunge apalis, mountain masked apalis, rwenzori double- collared, mountain Babbler, red throated alethe, kivu ground thrush, white bellied crested fly catcher and so many others it is also home to nocturnal like albertine owlet, fraser eagle owl,rwenzori nightjar.
As for Akangera National Park it is another bird haven in Rwanda. It is a habitat to African birds like Benetts wood pecker, black headed chat, tabora cisticola, miombo wren- warbler, rare ring necked francolin the list is endless.
