Ngamba Island The home of Chimpanzees

Ngamba Island is the best home where orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees are given a home. It is a place to spend time watching chimpanzees as they interact and play with each other while others feed the little ones. it is one of the amazing experiences while on  Uganda Safari. By visiting this island, you are directly supporting the well being of there apes.

Ngamba Island was established in 1998.This island is part of the Koome group of Islands and is situated in Mukono district. From Entebbe, this island is 23km southwest of Entebbe. it occupies an area of 100 acres of which 95 are forested and used by the chimpanzees to spend there daily time. Currently, it is home to over 40 orphaned and liberated chimpanzees.

This sanctuary aims at informing the visitors about the fantastic chimpanzees which at times are called man’s closed relatives. the sanctuary also promotes the existence of forested vegetation where the primate live.

Activities

Chimpanzee Watching at the plate form.

Care giving and integration of chimpanzee experience.

You have the time to spend with the Chimpanzees when you take part in these activities. For the sake of chimpanzee integration, you join a group of chimpanzees and take a walk with them for an hour. You are escorted by the company the sanctuary staff for your safety. Care giving is a 24hr chance to be behind the scenery of the sanctuary and participate in the daily activities of the sanctuary like cleaning, health checking, feeding and so many other sanctuary activities.

Sun set cruising

This is done on Lake Victoria where you sail on the fresh Lake Victoria water feeling the cool breeze. There are great opportunities of seeing water birds, monitor lizards, otters fish the list is endless. There are great opportunities of visiting the fishing village too.
