After tourism In Uganda was given its own ministry and recently was given the position of being one of the most sought after tourist destination in the world. The minister of tourism has embarked on the training of professional guides to offer classy customer service to Tourist who come for Uganda safaris.

This is one of the set goals by the ministry to market Uganda’s tourism Industry which is becoming on of the top foreign exchange earners in the country.

Mr. Kamuntu the minister for tourism notified that the training of UWA guides and private guides is a strategy used to address the challenge of inadequate professionalism in Uganda. He said this during the passing out of 84 tour guides from various conservation areas in western Uganda at the Makerere University Biological Field Station at Kanyawara in Kibale national Park. He said that Uganda has a number of gifts and that unless these attractions were put into packages that are attractive to the buyers combined with knowledgeable personal in customer care, they will remain dreams and idealistic geographic items on the country’s maps and records.

Uganda ranked one of the top visited tourism destinations on lonely planet which is a global forum were people seek about the destinations where they travel. Seguya said that the people have basked in the historical belief that tourism is only of the affluent from overseas, yet it is a track of our heritage.

Uganda has over 1057 bird species which are extremely higher than those of Europe which are 700 birds in number. More than 335 bird species were found in Kibale National Park only. Seguya attributed this to negative attitude by Ugandans and adequate customer care accorded to visitors by the wildlife employees. He encouraged the participants to use the skills that have acquired from their training. Herbert Byaruhanga the chairman of the Uganda Safari guides Association, which conducted the training together with Uganda Wildlife Authority said capacity building was necessary for Uganda to take a comparative advantage in the tourism sector. Seguya emphasized the training of birding guides because they need to tell the tourist the truth.
